Acrylic Painting: Painting On Canvas

This is my new painting. No matter how pathetic my imagination is (When it comes to painting), I have decided to use my own imagination or improvise in case I use any reference photo, so that I could call my paintings 'Original'. The word Original sounds great, no?

So, the above painting is my newest and original painting.

I am am acrylic beginner. I started with Watercolours and never thought I would enjoy painting in acrylics. I used to paint on acrylic paper but noticed that most of the artists paint on canvas so I decided to give it a try. So, I switched to painting on canvas - 'Acrylic On Canvas' sounds nice.

And I did a wonderful thing (can't believe I did that): I started painting on my new canvas (cut out from a roll). But the colours were not blending at all. I was squeezing n squeezing the colours and they were going nowhere. It felt like I was painting on a khadi bedsheet.

'Such a bad canvas sheet.' I thought!

Terribly frustrated, I finished the painting anyhow by applying a lot of water. And then I realized that I was painting on the wrong side of the canvas. 😢 😊 Wait, did I say I did something wonderful? Wonderfully stupid, I meant.

This 👇 is the painting:

If you paint on canvas, maybe you are laughing. I don't mind because even I laughed when I realized that. Also, I ruined a painting last night. It's looking at me, as if mocking. Let's see if I could fix it.

Another original painting that I created 2 days ago. Hope the bridge looks like a bridge.

Painting on a Canvas is a bit different from painting on paper, a little smoother I'd say. These are Eascan canvas sheets. I have also bought Canvas sheets from Camel but I haven't tried yet.
So, what do you think about my paintings? Do you paint in acrylics? Do you paint on Canvas? Any suggestions, please?

This post is part of a blogging challege. I am taking my blog to next level with BlogChatter's #MyFriendAlexa

Also, sharing with Paint Party Friday

  1. I already painted on canvas, but the pieces were already mounted on woodenframes, so noch chance to paint on the wrong side. *LOL* I really like the sescond painting. The colors and the mood are so nice! Would really like to walk over the bridge and see who lives in this house. Happy PPF!

  4. I cannot paint to save my life and truly respect people who create stories through them. I've seen you share your paintings and they're amazing for a beginner. I love the effort you put into every piece of work. The thing about painting on the wrong side of the canvas was funny. :-)

  7. You are gifted Tarang. What lovely pieces. Of course the little faux pas but why mind that when the end result is so beautiful.

  9. I love the colours and Geelong of the magenta painting, Tarang, and the Story!
After sketching and using colored pencils or watercolour for many years,I began painting with acrylics on canvas several years ago. I use the Golden fluid acrylics, and lions how far a little bit goes after the first layers! I also generally use stretched canvas, but your post makes me want to try a roll! (It would be easier to store all the paintings!!)

    1. Thank you so much, Nadya! Yes, rolls are easier to store plus it's cheaper than canvas boards/stretched canvas.

  12. Lovely paintings. My son bought me some new acrylics for my birthday in May but I've only used them a couple of times. I can't make my mind up what to paint. I usually use wrapped canvas frames but I've got a book too for acrylics.

My imagination is very limited when it comes to painting but I'm trying to use my own imagination or improvise in case I use any reference photo. I have ruined several painting while doing this but it's okay. Hope I get better.😊

  13. You are doing a wonderful job on your paintings. Hey we all make those kinds of mistakes. You should look up adding water to acrylics. Of course there are 2 thought processes on this. However, my teaching from a paint company agrees that water is NOT good for acrylics. Of course I am not trying to tell you how to paint just passing on information for you. Your original paintings are truly beautiful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKNpKUK4lMc

    1. Thank you so much! And thank you for passing the information. I will watch the video. I see artists don't use water while painting in acrylics but some artists do. It's about what works for you.😊

  14. Hi Tarang :) I think your paintings are lovely no matter which side you painted them on!! I love the last one, I'm a big fan of blue hues. I started with oil on canvas, but it's so messy...at least it is for me, I always end up getting oil paint all over my hands...I then switched to acrylics on canvas, but the canvas started to get really expensive for me! That's when I switched to watercolour and fell in love with it! :)

    1. Hello! :) Thank you so much! I started with watercolours. Started painting in acrylics recently (still paint in watercolours). Never thought I would enjoy acrylics but I do enjoy. Acrylic boards and stretched canvases are expensive, that's why I have bought canvas rolls/sheets. They are cheaper. Also, acrylic papers are like watercolour papers. You can even paint acrylics on watercolour papers. I've done that. In fact, I like it. Better than acrylic papers. 😊

  15. Long time!! Loved your art work.
I started water colour painting just a few months back so would buy that inexpensive water colour sheet and the paint would start gliding over the sheet. Took sometime to realize that one side was slightly glossy. Was kind of dumb but fun...😁😁😁

    1. Yes. :) Thank you so much!
Great that you started painting in watercolours. I'd suggest you to invest in good watercolour papers. That's the most important thing I have learned. Brustro or Arto papers are not very expensive. I paint on both sides. The texture is of course a bit different but it works well. Happy painting! Would love to see your watercolour paintings. 😊
