JNU: All that anxiety and fuss

I am amazed how things take turns, and get twisted in our country. How thinking varies with caste, community and gender. The thing that's unfair is equally unfair for every single individual. It can't be categorised or enhanced or reduced differently for different people.

This JNU thing has created an uproar. Actually, to the extent which, I think, was not necessary. This is a topic that I tried my best to avoid. But couldn't.

What happened?

It was not anything unusual for JNU. They are people with amazing energy. But, disturbance started with some slogans that some students were shouting (And there's no doubt about it). Slogans that were not in good taste, and certainly not in the favour of our nation. It doesn't mean that the whole JNU was burning in this "Aazaadi"thing. It's not that difficult to understand that it's not about entire JNU. It's about a bunch of destructive anti-social, anti-national (Not aunty-National) elements.

Then, out of nowhere, strange voices emerge in support of JNU and the problem that reeked of danger, seemed to tamper the sense of security, takes a back seat. Some called it idea, freedom of expression and Brunch (Hindustan times) called it intelligence!

Well, idea is a broad term, and can cover various things. Anything. From something constructive to destructive. In a place like college/University, ideas must breathe freely but don't you think it should be "constructive ideas"?

Then, "Freedom of Expression". In India, this term has evolved massively. But again, I'd say, it's a constructive term, and one cannot get away with "I-Am-Free-To-Do-Whatever-I-Want-To-Do" attitude in the name of 'freedom of expression'. With this meaning, anything and everything can fall under this category. Even those posters against Kanhaiya Kumar. Can one approve that? Certainly NOT!

I somehow felt that targeting Kanhaiya Kumar was a kind of distraction. It is important to know that: If not him, then who? Nobody seems to know. Not even JNU leaders who speak in a signature tone and style. It is like that filmy crime scene that happens publicly but nobody accepts that he/she was present there and has seen that happen.

Supporting what has happened at JNU doesn't make one cool or supremely intellectual. It's a serious issue and needs to be investigated thoroughly. If everything is clean, what could be better than that?

It's not an unusual thing if someone tries to damage the peace and integrity of our country. It happens quite often and engulfs several precious lives. If anything seriously dangerous happens, everyone starts blaming the Government and our security system very conveniently.

And Now!

When Kanhaiya Kumar is back, everyone is behaving like he has returned from the Border after a huge victory. As if he is a freedom fighter and the Government is like British rulers. It seems that opposition has taken this term quite literally. They think their job is just to oppose. Anything is fair for political benefits. And, it's so immature of BJP to react to Kanhaiya Kumar's speech like this. Media is vying for his interview! (Well, one can easily understand the competition of coverage. If they can show live telecast of serious and dangerous attacks then it is cypher in that comparison! After all it's a number (TRP) game)

It seems that everyone is unnecessarily portraying his heroic picture. Something he might have expected. To evolve as a revolutionary or politician.

Who is he? Student? No comments. Politician? Maybe, and it's okay. Revolutionary? A good thing to be but someone please tell me what this revolution is all about? What is this fuss about "Aazaadi"? Which kind of Aazaadi JNU students seek?

Why Mr. Arwind Kejriwal disappointed me?

Few years back, when I saw a movie Nayak, I found it very dramatic and impractical but on 28th December 2013, when Mr. Arvind Kejriwal took the oath as the Chief Minister of Delhi, it seemed surreal and the movie Nayak reeled in my mind again.

Arwind Kejriwal undoubtedly created a huge impact. Anna Hazaare was indeed the real face of 2011 Indian anti-corruption movement but I think, Arwind Kejriwal arranged and managed that protest so skillfully that it turned into a revolution.

We all know about the Indian Emergency Period 1975-77. Many of us have not witnessed that historical event but I think Jan Lokpal Andolan somehow recreated that effect to some extent. It was a rage for change and I salute the people of India especially Delhi for their energy that made this revolution a huge success! The whole aura said that “Yes, the condition of our country is surely going to change. Yes, that time has finally arrived.”

I’ve really admired Mr. Kejriwal for his thoughts, zeal, determination that reflected a genuine sense of patriotism.

People started analyzing and judging him as the CM as the expectation was giant. People forgot about the last government and expected magical change from the new CM. Other political parties did not lose any chance to pull him down which was inevitable. I really thought it was too early to judge him and he needed some time to do something substantial. The pace he took for making announcements seemed effectual.
But now, when I/Delhites look back, we surely feel a bit confounded and disappointed. He somehow shattered the expectations and hope of so many people.

I wonder why Mr. Arvind Kejriwal disappointed me. I’ve analyzed that:

He goes overboard while making statements thus losing the credibility of his own words.

He said he won’t join politics ever, he made his own party in 2012. We thought probably it was a right thing to do so we totally ignored the alteration of his words.

He said he’ll ‘never’ give/take support to/of any political party. He made the government with the support of Congress, the most corrupt political party, according to him. Again, we thought it was the right thing to do and he must get a chance to bring some change. We ignored.

He said he won’t take ‘Sarkari Bungalow’ but he took one. We ignored as it was totally justified for a CM of Delhi. But now, even after resigning, he did not vacate it. I felt bad.

He said, he won’t contest LS elections, now he is planning to contest against Mr. Narendra Modi, hoping to create the magic as he did with Ms. Sheila Dixit.

He said he won’t give LS tickets to the sitting MLAs but now, Ms. Rakhi Bidlan gets one.

He went overboard while making promises.

Now, I can’t ignore.

He has the tendency to leave things midway and reflects instability.

I think, his resignation as the CM was very disappointing and irresponsible.

There’s a saying “Busy without Business”. Some people have the tendency to look very busy while they don’t do anything substantial. His 49 days tenure reminds me of that saying.

I don’t think he has done a commendable job as a CM. you may ask ‘what do you expect in just 49 days?’ I would say ‘who asked him to leave things midway and resign?’

It’s not that you have thought or said something and it has to be done right then and there. You have to be patient and should struggle and Mr. kejriwal knows that very well then what was the hurry?

 `

He just want to create uproar and instigates people to participate…always. People were always with him but a serious government doesn’t run by doing “Dharnas”. Being the CM of Delhi, his dharna and protest on Somnath Bharti’s case was again irresponsible and disgraceful. Action is always better than shouting!

He thinks ‘He is always right and everyone else is always wrong.’ His teammate and friend Mr. Kumar once said an idiom that ‘Jua khelna buri baat hain, main kheloon to aur baat hai’ it goes aptly with Mr. Kejriwal.

Moreover, the enthusiasm he shows regarding investigation against other political parties diminishes when it comes to his own party. He decides if they are wrong or right.

He makes false statements to glorify his deeds.

He always accuses others, sometimes without any proof. Before joining politics, he had many documents as proof against corrupt politicians. Everything took a backseat when he got powers.

He sometimes uses disgraceful language, following the footsteps of many other political leaders.

He said Republic Day Ceremony a VIP tamasha and later found sitting there among the VIPs.

He believes in show off.

His outer appearance! Yes, it matters, especially when you’re at a supreme designation. That irritating muffler. That oversized jacket! Huh! He is an educated, well-known, well-to-do personality. Being an Aam Aadmi doesn’t mean you can’t look presentable and tidy.

His regular takiya-Kalam "Main bahut chhota aadmi hoon. Meri koi aukat nahin hai." is hammering!

I have no interest in politics but I felt that Mr. Kejriwal made the Indian politics interesting. I started to track the ongoing movements of Indian politics during Delhi elections. He seemed different. He exhibited tremendous truthfulness and hope. People of India and Delhi extended tremendous support. He got a golden opportunity to shine and help India shine but I feel he missed that opportunity.

Let’s see what happens in Lok Sabha Elections.

Sachin Tendulkar: The Final Stroke!

'15th November' is a very special date in Indian cricket as on this date Sachin Tendulkar played his last inning and on this very date, 24 years back, Sachin made his debut.

When Tendulkar arrived on the ground, to play the last match of his career, and the way the team members of West Indies and umpires greeted him warmly, made me nostalgic and a bit emotional.

That moment took me many years back....

When, one day, my friend told me that "There's a new cricketer 'Sachin Tendulkar' and he is awesome!"

When I saw his photo for the first time.

When, while returning from school, I saw a notebook in a shop. There was a young boy standing on the cover with a bat and it read 'Sachin Tendulkar'. I went to have a close look, then, inexplicably bought it. It stayed with me for a long time, always, and saw me following, enjoying and cherishing everything about him.

When, like everyone, I fell in love with him!

When, everyone knew I was an ardent fan of Tendulkar.

When I saw him biting his nails and felt good that we both shared this habit and I shouldn't be scolded for that.

When I pasted a large poster of Tendulkar in my room even though I hate sticking celebrity posters on walls.

When, one fine Sunday, I heard everyone calling me fervently. Clueless and confused, I went to the room where everyone was gathered (Still calling me) in front of the television. A tall man was talking to a lean, meek young boy. The young boy was Sachin Tendulkar and the programme was "Cricket with Mohinder Amarnath".

When with my newly developed interest in cricket, I used to get up @ 3 a.m in the month of February to watch the 1992 cricket world cup and my uncle helped me understand the game.

When I felt nervous when Tendulkar was on strike, and silently prayed for his big score.

Sachin Tendulkar is a passion. He is a feeling. An Era! There is no replacement for Sachin.

Actually, my interest in cricket burgeoned with Sachin Tendulkar and it seems to diminish with his retirement. These days, I don't watch cricket much (Except Sachin's innings. Of course I watched every bit of his last inning!) but it's hard to believe that the master has finally said goodbye to international cricket and his incredible fan following.

But, I don't want to say goodbye to him. I don't want to miss him. I just want to stay in the trance that I got into....many years back!

Freedom is...

Freedom is…

Opportunity, to paint your life with colours of your own choice. Living life with your own terms…without the fear of any judgment and unnecessary interference, in a generous and and supportive society which doesn't pass/impose judgment on you (Especially for women…especially single women who are forced to stay in the tribulations of bad marriage and tolerate violence with their wrecked dignity due to our eccentric social structure).

Breathing your own little space, without any inhibition, in a relationship…

To be financially and physically independent

Right to learn new things without any boundaries

To express your opinion fearlessly

Liberty to make your own choice and decisions

And Above all, living with a sense of SECURITY

But freedom is not just grabbing a chance to do what you want or what comes in your mind without caring for others. Oblivious of your duties.

Savour the flavor of freedom with a prudent sense of responsibility…

Wishing you.... HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!

This shame is your pride

Helpless pleading eyes and
Face suffused with fear
Don't affect you anyhow
Piercing shrieks never hit your mind
Trembling body reflecting aversion
Cannot resist your filthy intention
Girls are NOT your property
Why don't you understand the meaning of a firm NO?
You never think before crushing a girl's life
Her anguish and pain is irrelevant to you
Have you ever thought....
How any girl close to YOU might have felt?
No, you haven't
Because you may do this sinful act to her too
What provokes you in innocent little girls?
Or in weak old women?
You can't think beyond a body
A sense of repent never echoes in your heart
Your dirty fiend mind scheme for just a cruel act....
This shame is your pride
In your life...
This is the only thing you crave to perform
This is your dream
This is your goal
And this is what you want to achieve???

Satyamev Jayate

Sirf hangama khada karna mera maksad nahin
Meri Koshish hai ki ye soorat badalni chahiye
Mere sine mein nahin to tere seene mein sahi
Ho kahin bhi aag, lekin aag jalni chahiye

With these uplifting lines, the much awaited television show of Aamir Khan "Satyamev Jayate" has started this Sunday on Star Plus, in 11 a.m. timeslot.  Aamir Khan has already proved many times that he puts his ultimate effort in whatever he does and whatever he does becomes special and different in its own way. I am pleasantly surprised that unlike other celebrity shows Aamir Khan is not just trying to entertain us by hansi-mazak or drama, but he is focusing on the very serious social issues in order to create awareness and bring blissful/peaceful changes in our society. "Dil pe lagegi tabhi baat banegi." Very well said!

The First episode highlighted the issue of female feoticide and disappointment on the birth of female child which happens even in our so-called intellectual society (According to the facts and figures, it’s more common in urban society than rural areas). Some victims shared their heart-wrenching experiences. Those incredible real-life stories were an emotional eruption. Pity and anger surged at the same time.

It’s not that we haven’t heard people talking about this issue. But it’s much more than we think. And maybe a celebrity voice, like Aamir Khan’s, who reflects reality, pain and positivity through his poignant and sensible films (I have seen Taare Zamee Par and Rang De Basanti many times and every time they touch my heart), can make a difference.

Initially, this show reminded me of “Zindagi Live” on IBN 7. But it is different in its own special way. This programme has much more in its kitty than just sharing painful experiences. Apart from unveiling the filthy and bitter yet truths of our society, it presented some eye-widening facts/figures with enlightened opinions. This show also highlighted the bright side of our society that brings a ray of hope. Moreover, Aamir Khan’s effort to bring some pleasant changes in our society doesn’t halt here only. There will be a programme called “Asar” on Star News, dealing with the after effect of this show.

The first episode ended with awareness and hope and a very poignant song “O ri chiraiya, nanhi si chiriya, angna mein phir aa jaa re”.  I’m really looking forward to watching this show. A very positive step towards awareness and hope through Satyamev Jayate definitely deserves our attention and appreciation.

Century of Centuries: Glorious Super Century!!

So, finally, after loads of expectation, waiting, judgments and criticism, our very own Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar attained an incredible milestone.  Patience paid really well as today he graced his bat with magnificent 100th century of his international cricket career.

Today playing against Bangladesh, he scored his 100th hundred in 138 balls. He made his last (99th) century against South Africa on 12th March 2011 at Nagpur during the world cup. He has 51 centuries in the test cricket and today he scored his 49th hundred in ODI cricket.

It’s really an incredibly special, emotional and indeed a HISTORICAL moment for Sachin and Indians. Sachin is Great and he deserves a
HUGE CONGRATULATION and BLESSINGS
.

Congratulations Sachin!!  We feel proud to witness that precious moment and we are proud of you!

Celebration!!

Celebration!!

Celebration of hope. Hope of eradication of corruption from our country. Corruption, which is making our country weak from many years, and we are vulnerable to endure everything. But we are not. This “Fight against corruption movement” for which Anna Hazare, his team and the entire nation is raising a voice, proved it.

Finally, we people have partly attained the success in the battle against corruption. We have advanced a step forward towards the path of triumph and “Corruption free India. Today, Anna Hzaare ended his fast as the parliament passed the resolution accepting the demands of Jan Lokpal Bill.

Hats off to Anna and his team. Hats off to the Indian people. Without their support, this movement wouldn’t have succeeded like this. Indian people have really created a history by their tremendous support towards this historical movement. Their zest, maintaining the peacefulness is splendid indeed! Though, there are few people who considered it over dramatized.  Some tried to put hurdles on the way. However nothing matters now. It is the beautiful and striking example of the strength of Indian Democracy and Integrity. Role of media truly deserves an applaud for connecting us with this movement closely and thoroughly
.

We always heard of freedom fight and JP movement, but it is that incredible movement which we witnessed. This generation should be proud that they got the privilege to be part of it.  As Anna said, it is a partial success, it is, but let’s hope for the best. And people should be determined to change themselves and our society to support the success of this movement further. India is rising and it will be shining.

Congratulations India!!   Jai Hind.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!

As the Independence Day and Republic Day approaches patriotic songs echo throughout the surroundings. Be it news channels, music channels, FM Radio or any reality show, everywhere we can hear patriotic songs and it is very pleasant to hear. It is the impact of these songs that they literally give me goose bumps. Reverence for our freedom fighters and soldiers reaches to its optimum level.  (I know all the Indians feel the same way)

In our life we are too much occupied with our tensions, various problems and enjoyments too. The Independence Day and those patriotic songs remind us that how fortunate we are to breathe in a free country and are free to do whatever we want to do in our lives. We are free to take our decisions. We have some rights. But we have some duties too which we should follow. All the pains and struggles have been taken by our honorable martyrs. It’s because our soldiers we enjoy our life safely. We sleep peacefully.

In our life we thank those people who help us or who do something for us. Though Thank You is a very small word for our freedom fighters and soldiers but still I, on the behalf of our nation would like to say a big THANK YOU to all of them who fight for the welfare of our country. Who fight against corruption. Who fight against those anti social and greedy elements who want to tamper the grace and unity of our nation. We all wish and hope that harmony, integrity and strength of our country remain indelible.

I feel happy and proud to wish you all - “HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!”

This auspicious day is the most pious festival of India and those patriotic songs are all time favorites. The Tricolour, our national flag make us feel proud! Proud to be an Indian.

                                                            JAI HIND

A big round of applause to Anna!

Finally the movement against corruption turned fruitful and Anna hazare along with his many supporters ended their fast leading to the victory of the people of India.

Yesterday, on a news channel, a small girl, along with a huge crowd near Jantar-Mantar was holding a hoarding which read “We don’t want to live in corruption.”  We certainly don’t want to.

People generally curse the leaders and corruption by just sitting at home. Very few people take any initiative, but we all want a corruption free society.

Veteran social activist Anna Hazare began a fast-unto-death in the capital demanding enactment of an inclusive  Jan Lokpal Bill  to give wider powers to Ombudsman to check corruption. His one substantial step has created a rage in the country. Personalities like Kiran Bedi, Swami Agnivesh, Arvind Kejriwal, Shanti Bhushan and Medha Patkar along with the entire nation supported him immensely and stood by him.

Eventually, today the Government had to give in by accepting his all the five demands. People of India really appreciate the respect which the government has shown for these revolutionaries. A grand salute to Anna Hazare and his team!

The Master Stroke!

MS Dhoni struck the glorious six declaring the triumph. Team India hits the bull’s-eye. Yes, we won the Cricket World Cup 2011!!!!

India beat Srilanka by 6 wickets. It is a glorious moment. A historic moment. Now the shining glory is in India!

When Srilanka won the toss and decided to bat first, it was troublesome as in nine world cup finals, only two teams won after chasing.

Despite of controlled bowling and crisp fielding, Srilanka managed to score 274 runs. When Virendra Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar got out early, they left everyone stunned. But Gautam Gambhir (97) and the captain MS Dhoni (91) played an extremely responsible innings and gripped the match. They made the country proud. The emotions erupted and oozed out from the eyes of Indian players in the form of tears. It is really an emotional moment.

Many –Many congratulations to Team India and of course to the entire nation for such a glorious achievement. A special congratulation to the Master, Sachin Tendulkar who tried and waited for six World Cup and 21 long years to achieve this victory. That was a touching and spectacular moment when the youngsters lifted him on their shoulders and walked around the field. He will definitely treasure and cherish this moment all his life.

Well Done Team India, now the WORLD CHAMPIONS. Thank you so much for making this dream come true. We are very proud of you!!!!

We won!!!!

We are in World cup final!!!!!

India beat Pakistan in semi finals, qualifying for the final. It’s a great achievement indeed. India conquered over Pakistan 5th time (Every time) in World cup (Sachin Tendulkar is savouring this victory since 21 years and in 6 consecutive World Cups). Sachin Tendulkar won the Man of the Match award.

Indian players played really well though the pitch did not seem very supportive. No doubt Pakistan fought well but eventually the ball is in our court. We are just one step behind the final destination. Indian team is going to appear in final for the third time.

India will meet Srilanka in final on 2nd April. For the first time, two Asian team will be combating in the Cricket World cup final. We wish our Indian team all the best and we hope that this time the victory will be repeated after 28 long years and the much awaited glorious trophy will be ours.

De ghuma ke!

Right now India is resonating with crackers and strangely I’m not feeling irritated. It’s the time when the whole nation follows just one religion. That is “Indianism”.

As the World cup song says “De ghuma ke”, India completely followed it. Fever of world cup 2011 is raising everyday and today India, started with a bang. Congratulations to Sehwag (175), Virat Kohli (100), the entire team and of course to entire nation! Of course there is still a long way to go but this victory in the very first match is definitely going to boost the confidence of our Indian team. Let the fever of World Cup reach the optimum level.

Today India defeated Bangladesh by 87 runs. Though Bangladesh fought back well but it’s a nice opening. I, on the behalf of the entire nation wish our Indian team to continue this magnificence.

It is the last world cup for Sachin Tendulkar (The first one dismissed in this world cup yet we expect some of his finest innings in his last world cup) so he along with the whole team definitely would be keen to bring the World cup back after 27 long years.
We all want the “World Cup”!

We all wish our Indian team to perform well and bring the shining glory home.

De ghuma ke!
All the best and god bless.

Being Sachin Tendulkar

Today, Sachin Tendulkar completed his 50th Test century. Amazing! A peerless achievement indeed!  Congratulations to him. The entire nation is proud of him, of course!

Being Sachin Tendulkar is a phenomenon itself.  What to say about him? He is incredible. He is marvelous. He is a precious gem of our country. Actually, his personality is beyond description. He had been a strong pillar of Indian Cricket Team for years, and he will be onwards.  Not only in ODI and Test but in T 20 series too, his bat is blasting. Even now, he is in full bloom.

May the blast of the master continue further and may he bring the much awaited World Cup. Touch Wood!
