Trying Acrylic Paintings: Night Scenes

Hello,

Artists say that if you want to begin, start with acrylic paintings, because they are easier than watercolour/oil paintings and it's forgiving. However, I didn't listen to them and started with watercolour medium. I love watercolour paintings!

Recently, I decided to try acrylic paintings. Sharing my acrylic paintings today. Yes, it's forgiving but it's not easy. I ruined two paintings. But then, I'm just 6 paintings old. I'm trying to learn.

These paintings are inspired by YouTube video tutorials by 'Stay Creative Paintings with Ryan O'Rourke'

I'm an absolute beginner but I've learnt a few important things about acrylic painting

1. You can use water {I thought we shouldn't use water and struggled a lot initially}

2. Never take a large amount of paint on your palette. When acrylic paints are moist, they are water soluble but once they dry, they get very hard and, unlike watercolours, cannot be re-moistened.

3. Acrylic paints dry quickly, yes, but still we need to let it dry, in certain conditions, before applying other colours.

And watercolour is still my favourite medium.

That's all for now. Do you paint in acrylics?

  1. Hi Tarang :) I LOVE your first painting, well done!! I actually started with oils following Bob Ross on television. Then I switched to acrylics. Yes, they dry ultra fast. I used a lot of water with mine. I haven't done acrylic painting in a while though. Canvas gets pricey! :) I prefer watercolour these days when I'm painting. I'm trying really hard to develop a loose style of painting, that's hard for me!

    1. Thank you so much for your comment! :)
I love watercolours, the way the colours flow...
I am using canvas yet, as I mentioned I've just started. Yes, Canvas is a little expensive. I have seen some videos on YouTube where they teach you to create your canvas at home. It's very easy and cheap. Planning to do that. :) Thank you for visiting.

  2. Hi Tarang, your paintings are fabulous. I like working with acrylics, and you can add a retarder to make them dry less quickly. Have a great weekend, happy PPF. hugs, Valerie

  4. Yes, I use acrylics. I also love watercolors but never have a lot of success, so don’t try often. Once they are applied, they are there to stay. I need the forgiving-ness of acrylics, and I don’t think any painting style is easy. Actually it feels like hard work. Your work is amazing. You are a natural!

    1. Yes, it's difficult to fix your mistakes in watercolour paintings. Thank you so much, Barbara, for your kind words. Glad you like my efforts. ☺

  5. lovely scenic art Tarang! I love acrylics the most!!! Still playing and learning about watercolors and enjoying it . A tip about your acrylics- if you plan on continuing with them I'd suggest getting some Matte Medium. You mix some in with your paint to keep the acrylic wet longer so as not to dry out on you so fast. I actually much prefer using that rather than water;)Happy PPF!

  6. Very well done. I really an not good at watercolors and tend to stick with oils and acrylics. Check out a Masterson box with sponge and special paper for your acrylics. They stay moist and will last a long time. https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=masterson+box+for+acrylic+paints

  7. Your paintings are beautiful Tarang and, if I had to choose, the first one is my favourite.
Yes, I paint in acrylics and its a medium I choose most of the time. When I'm working on a painting and wish to keep the same paints for a while I use my homemade wet pallette which is small plastic box (say, an old tupperware piece) with fitted lid. I put paper towel in the base, dampen it and then kitchen paper on top of that on to which I squeeze the paints. Replacing the lid after each use keeps the paints moist for up to a week or so (conditional upon weather).
I would love to use watercolours more.

    1. Thank you very much, Sue! It's a good idea. Yes, I used an airtight box to save my extra titanium white. It works. ☺

  10. To paint acrylic well, you need to paint like you're not paying for the paint! On the off chance that you need a decent paint finish, at that point you have to apply the perfect measure of paint. You should never spread paint out daintily in light of the fact that you need to set aside some cash or for some other explanation. this store
